My setup has always been temporary, trying to get the software where I wanted it... Hardware wise it was in a box with wires dangling out - but not all fully assembled.
Last weekend I got to the point of having it all ready - except the final assembly. Mounted on pole - check, everything all looks good. Start up the 3D Printer, and that's where my problems started... The printer would stop halfway, or it would be spaghetti, or it did not stick to the bottom plate and be warped.. I must have printer or attempted to print things 30 times.... And of course the failures only occurred after 2.5 hours or so... I upgraded my CPU in the printer, changed filament - and finally after 4 days I had the 3d prints I wanted.
Today I did the final assembly all good.
Did a test run, and it booted and updated everything - I was all good. Phew finally done. I did a shutdown, and went to the box, opened it up for the final check.
Oh I can see a small problem - all the header pins on the grover board are bent... I forgot to tell you in my haste of assembly after it was mounted on the pole, and everything was screwed down, but no 3d parts screwed on, I had it leaning against the wall of the shed. Within 2 hours, some wind caught it and knocked it over - at the time no damage... but I realise now that the pins must have got bent at that stage...
Not to worry - can you see where this is leading to.... I have turned it off, let me just straighten those pins... Touched them with a screwdriver and immediately saw the sparks, and my heart dropped. I had done the shutdown - vividly recall doing that... but I had not turned the power off or unplugged the power cord - damn it.
Trying to reboot - only red light is shining on the Raspberry 3B, Blue light is on the Grover board - No activity in accessing the SD card. Preliminary analysis - killed the raspberry PI !!!
I have a spare wireless raspberry Pi - but it has no headers... I have a spare Raspberry 4... but I don't want to really use it - maybe the SD card might boot, maybe the SkyWeather software will work, but its a heat magnet and I don't want to be running that permanently... and I don't want to change power supplies to usb c (I have already extended the cable to the raspberry 3 power supply!)
So its wait for shops to be open tomorrow to buy a new Raspberry Pi 3, and only then will I learn if I have killed any other components...
Not happy! But its my fault! Been offline for a week, made it back online for 5 mins, hoping to be back online permanently tomorrow~!
