Any idea why my battery charging info is not being reported by OurWeather?
STATUS I have the OurWeather Complete Kit and the SunAirPlus Solar Charger.
I have the charger working (battery charges and powers the weather board).
The weather station is working (connects to local WiFi and reports info).
I did an over-the-air update to update OurWeather to latest version of software. Currently has 021 installed.
ISSUE I used the SunAirPlus documentation to connect the SunAirPlus board to the OurWeather I2C bus, but when the OurWeather boots, I do NOT see any data on the charging system show on the OLED screen, and the JSON FullDataString does not include any charging info (all zeros), even in full sun.

Here's the charging side of the wiring. The I2C connection is in the center-left. You can also see the yellow jumper wire connecting the JP4 Single Pin header on SunAirPlus (Part D) and the other end into LIPOBATIN (JP5) on the USB PowerControl Board. The other end of that cable plugs into the I2C 4-way block at the back, next to the OurWeather board. The I2C connector to the main OurWeather Board and the outside thermometer are also connected. The OLED screen connects directly to the main OurWeather board's 2nd I2C connection point. The wind speed, wind direction, and rain gauges are not currently connected, as the board is inside at the moment. (could that somehow affect the charging reporting??)

Your wiring looks correct. Thank you for the great pictures. Now, I want you to try something for me. With the power off, connect the power pin on the SunAIrPlus board (the red wire on the Grove to Pin Header Connector). Re run your tests and report back. I am suspecting that in some case you might have to connect that wire. BP

Now, I want you to try something for me. With the power off, connect the power pin on the SunAIrPlus board (the red wire on the Grove to Pin Header Connector). Connect the red wire to VDD (between the white SDA and the black GND wires)? re: Power off: do you mean the slider switch on the SunAirPlus or disconnect the USB power cable between the SunAirPlus and the OurWeather board? ... and once the red wire is connected, I assume I should restore the power and power the board up?

I'm using an abundance of caution here so as not to let the magic smoke out of either board. The installation manual says:
================================== You connect it in this manner: Pin 1 - Yellow - SCL Pin 2 - White - SDA RED (DO NOT CONNECT!) Pin 4 - Black - GND ==================================
Sounds like you're asking me to ignore the "(DO NOT CONNECT!)" warning so I want to make sure I do it right.

Yes I am. I believe in some setups, you have to connect the VDD. It is good to be cautious!

I connected the Red Wire to VDD and it is WORKING NOW! The battery info shows on the OLED screen and also in the FullDataString.

I'm having the same issue. Tried two different SunAirPlus boards and neither report anything. All is connected properly. Red wire is not connected. Via serial, I always get "SunAirPlus Not Present".
I'm happy to try connecting the red to VCC but not sure when doing so is safe. Can I connect it if I'm also connected via FTDI? What about if I have it connected to an external power? I assume the answer is "no" for the latter but I'm trying to understand when its ok and when its not as the docs seem pretty clear not to connect that wire at all.

Yes, connecting the red to VCC is safe. Yes, to the FDTI cable. Yes to the External power.
What we are finding is we probably should recommend connecting this wire all the time. It works disconnected on some boards and not on others. You are safe!
We are just rewriting the GroveWeatherPi Tutorial for SunControl and some new power saving ideas so we will include the change in that.

So, I found a glitch to connecting the red to VCC. When I do that, my air quality sensor stops working (reports 0). If I pull the red wire, it starts working again. Anything that can be done so both solar and air quality report?

I found this thread after my solar was not reporting data. I added the red wire which allows me to read the data, but as SMR notes above, my air quality readings are now zero

Steve,
We are going to have to duplicate this and see what is going on. You have the AirQuality sensor (ADC Board) and the SunAIrPlus board too right? Can you post a picture of your setup? We want to see the wiring.

That is the setup I have (air quality sensor to ADC to I2C and then red wire connected to solar). W? that setup, air quality is always 0. If I remove red wire, air quality reports again.
Unfortunately, I can't provide a pic right now as my system is installed on my roof. If Steve cannot easily provide one, I can go up there in the next day or so and take one.
