Hello, excuse me if I am an idiot, but following the tutorial (the updated Grove one) on Instructables, I'm finding it lacking. Took me some time to figure out that the software portion of the tutorial is very incomplete. Should I be following a different one? For instance, there are apparently several sections on GitHub, but which one? Following the readme there, I apparently installed the wrong one? After reading the other tutorial I figured out that I should be cloning the weatherrack one, and went from there. But I have no idea if I'm missing stuff? I think the confusion stems from this being my first experience with Pi and GitHub, and the readme in the base of github.com/switchdoclabs/SDL_Pi_GroveWeatherPi tells you how to install for SMbus, etc, but not the main base. I think I've figured it out so far, we'll see how it goes when I get all the hardware hooked up. I guess what I'm asking is, Is there a more recent guide? Thanks!

lee,
You are hardly an idiot! Yes, the GroveWeatherPi is the correct tutorial. Yes, the software section is somewhat lacking. We are updating the GroveWeatherPi kit (using some new techniques and hardware) and we will rewrite the tutorial as well. Especially the software.
The best thing you can do for us at this point is to run the test under the SDL_Pi_TCA9545 directory. Then post the results. That gives us an excellent run down if you have the system set up correctly.

OK. So here's an improvement I can suggest: After getting the basics wired up, none of the commands worked, ie. I2C devices AND hub not detected. Even with all the lights on, nobody was home. After some searches, I found the I2C stuff must be enabled in the /boot/config.txt and elsewhere to make sure the modules load. My first clue was nothing in /dev/I2c I may have missed it, but I saw nothing in the GroveWeatherPi docs regarding editing the /boot/config file or enabling modules.
Thanks!

So I have almost everything working hardware-wise, except the 1016 lighting board because I have the old one, and don't know how to wire it in. Also, I can't seem to find how to install the proper software and configs specifically for GroveWeatherPi using the RasPiConnect. I see a link to the repository, but not what to do with it to get it to work with this setup.
I'm just assuming that since everyone is making these pretty much the same, with the same off the shelf components, there would be a comprehensive, step by step tutorial to put it all together. I'm not complaining, just maybe not looking in the right place?
I've figured out some things on my own, but other things, I just don't have enough information, or I really don't have the time (not for wanting) to learn the complete guide to writing RasPiConnect stuff. Also, is RasPiCOnnect the ONLY interface people are using?
THanks!

Lee,
RaspiConnect is a complex program to interface to. Very powerful, but complicated. Project Curacao has 8 screens!
You can connect to anything by modifying the software. Not to let out a surprise (well I was told to post something today on the board), but we are working on an Amazon Alexa interface. John has it about 1/2 working in the lab.
