Interesting improvement on adding a precise length of wire to the severed trace. In my case the my laptop is about 2.5 feet away from the Weatherplus board on my desk so I don't need to increase range (yet). An aside question; there is no sonic speaker or other noise generator on either the WeatherPlus or the SunAirPlus or usb to usb smart board right? I was deliberately running down the lipo battery and around 3.9V I was hearing an indistinct chirp but couldn't get a fix on it. Odd so I reconnected ac usb power to the solarair board and the noise at least stopped. Allen.

I have complained about that noise elsewhere in the forums. It's likely caused by a poorly wound/coated inductor on the board. Any small change in the overall system status (like applying USB power) will shift the leaking frequencies and change the sound. Eventually I chose to ignore the noise as the units are sitting in the wilderness anyhow, in a box, so the noise pollution is negligible.

I agree with you about the inductor. That's the most likely culprit.
