When I try to run SGS.py I get the following error.
ImportError: No Module named neopixel.
What am I missing?

cbluto,
Common problem. You need to follow the installation instructions (which are somewhat complicated. Be careful!) in the SDL_Pi_SmartGardenSystem/SDL_Pi_8PixelStrip/ directory. This will clear things up.

I tried this and still get the same error.
I have made sure I am using the current version of Stretch (2019-04-08-raspbian-stretch-full) have made sure I am using python 3 and think I have followed the instructions faithfully.
I now get the following errors when I load python ./setup.py build and python ./setup.py install.
collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status
error: command 'arm-linux-gnueabihf-gcc' failed with exit status 1
I am relatively new to pi/python and trying to learn but I am obviously missing something.
Can you help?

I think the problem is you are running python3. You should be running Python 2.X. Python3 and Python2 installations exist in different places.

Hi, When I try to run SGS.py I also get the following error.
ImportError: No Module named neopixel.
I looked in the SDL_Pi_8PixelStrip folder, but I don't have a clue what instructions I should follow. I'm wondering why this would not be covered in your general PDF instructions?
It was a bit disappointing in that so far everything had worked on my Pi 3B ...
Tks, AB

Hi, I should also mention that my OLED display that came with the Smart Garden was defective. I changed the cable but no joy. Fortunately I had another one from one of your previous projects, and that one worked fine.

ab,
First you need to follow the build instructions in the main README.md file and then move to the directions in the Python directory.

Ok, thanks for that, I went through all of that but still get the error. Frankly, there is so much gobbledygook in that readme file, and I simply can't get it going.
Honestly, I don't understand why your step by step instructions leave that part out. Shouldn't it either install this automatically or at least provide clearer instructions? It basically stops the program dead, if you can't figure it out.
So if I just comment this out to get it running, what do I lose? Is this about the vertical bar of LEDS that maybe shows the water level? I can probably live without that for now.
I just noticed that you provide an SD card with all the software on it, so I guess I will have to purchase that, but for now I will try a neopixel-less install.
Tks, AB

Ab,
It's a tough install and not written by us. We should add it to the step by step install, you are right!
SD Card has it installed.

Hi, ok, I ordered the SD card. Your regular instructions are quite flawless, so I was surprised when I ran into this. I could figure it out, but I have 50 years experience in the industry. I think it would stop a hobby user dead. Just sayin ...

We will look this over the next revision of the manual. It shouldn't be soooooo difficult.

ok, I'm sure that will be appreciated by many of your users,
So what about the defective OLED, is there any warranty on it? Maybe not worth replacing?

Happy to replace it for you! Are you talking about the OLED board or the RGBW Pixel board?
Please post a picture.

I give up, I can't get the SGS software to believe that the neopixel is installed. I read the directions in the SDL_Pi_8PixelStrip directory. And here are my results:
sudo scons scons: Reading SConscript files ... scons: done reading SConscript files. scons: Building targets ... scons: `libws2811.a' is up to date. scons: `test' is up to date. scons: done building targets.
Pop back in the parent directory to "try" SGS and I get:
sudo python SGS.py Traceback (most recent call last): File "SGS.py", line 37, in <module> from neopixel import * ImportError: No module named neopixel
Anyone have any additional thoughts that are not listed in the README.md? Thanks in advance,
Dunc

The problem is that for some reason, the python libraries have not been added. Take a look in the python subdirectory here:
SDL_Pi_SmartGardenSystem/SDL_Pi_8PixelStrip/python/
and follow those instructions too. Run the sample tests as shown in the readme file.
It isn't the most user friendly install procedure by any means. We will document this better.
