All the pics / instructions have the UV sensor on the front of the case next to the camera....
Why ?
Surely it only gets direct sunlight half the day at most, and would potentially be in shadow some of the time.... Would it not be better to mount this on the top - yes it might get the shadow of the pole or rain sensor - but it would be in direct sunlight more if it pointed upwards to the sky...
Would this not be more accurate ?
Or is it simply mounting it on the front panel gives better weather protection - and rain runs the dust off it so you don't need to clean it?
Or is it just asthetics?

I think you are right. It should be up on the top, covered by a plastic dome. A crystal dome would be much more expensive. But, just having it point up would improve the reading, even under a flat crystal frame.

Equally I was thinking today to mount the lightning sensor downwards - just to prevent birds resting on the horizontal pole....
