Folks,
We have found a problem with our latest batch of AM2315 Temperature / Humidity Sensors that we have been shipping with OurWeather kits.
Basically, we have found that about 10% or so of the AM2315 sensors are not ESP8266 compatible (that is the processor used in the current OurWeather kit). That is way too high of a failure rate for this kit! They work perfectly with Arduino and quite well with the Raspberry Pi, FYI.
We are moving all these kits to an SHT30 based temperature and humidity sensor. That fixes the problem.
You will need to have V036 of the OurWeather system on your system. The over-the-air update (see the operations manual on how to get it to update) is now available.
We don't care when or where you bought your kit, we will replace them anyway.
To participate:
Ship your AM2315 with your shipping address enclosed in your parcel:
SwitchDoc Labs OurWeather AM2315 Exchange 909 S Shelley Lake Lane Spokane Valley, WA 99037
We are glad we figured this out!
Best regards, Laurie Vessey

So I need to ship the temp sensor back to you what I got from you?

We shipped you a SHT30, right? If so, you are fine.

Chet,
First of all, what did you to do fix the compile error. It is important we document this for others.

Are you sure you have the IP address right? Can you ping the computer?
It looks like you aren't talking to the board.

Hello SDL, So….. now I’m thoroughly confused by all of this………. I currently have an OurWeather system running with an AM2315 temp/hum sensor mounted outside in a weather protective mushroom-cap shell. The encased AM2315 fits nicely into the weatherproof shell. The system has been working for a long time, although I occasionally experience failures that require a system reset. The system is running on ver. 035. I gather from various threads that I should NOT update to the latest ver. 036 so long as I continue to use the AM2315 sensor. Is this correct? You post seems to infer that the new ver. 036 is intended only for use with the SHT30 based temperature and humidity sensor. Now that you have switched to the SHT30 sensor, will you stop issuing occasional software updates to those of us still using the older AM2315 sensor? If I remove my old encased AM2315 sensor and send it back to you for a new replacement SHT30, will you be sending me an encased new SHT30 something like eBay item: Voltage Output Humidity Temperature Sensor Probe with SHT30 Chip, Splash proof, eBay #123123349619, or will you just send me a bare-bones SHT30 breakout board? The above-mentioned eBay item is expensive, but will easily mount back into the cap that easily contains the physically identical earlier AM2315 sensor. So, what should I do? Will you continue to support those of us still using the older AM2315?

The AM2315 sensor I have was purchased with OurWeather Kit a few years ago. I have upgraded to the SkyWeather kit re-using the AM2315 sensor.
Should I do a swap?

Powder Jockey,
Only if you have problems with the AM2315. Otherwise no.

Hello SDL,
Wonderful! You addressed my concerns and provided a clear and reasonable answer.
I will attempt to update my current system (Ourweather with AM2315) to ver. 036 soon. Besides adding the new SHT30 sensor support, does ver. 036 add any additional benefits beyond ver. 035? Why do I need ver. 036?
Can you report anything about the reliability of the new SHT30 sensor with OurWeather? The reason that I ask is that my system with AM2315 frequently reports erroneous high temperature and low humidity (1%) on hot days. Interestingly, it seems to recover the next day when it reports normal parameters. If your new encased SHT30 performs better, I'll buy one.
Thanks, rnbowman

V36 has no significant changes beyond SHT30 support.
So far, so good. No reports of problems. Ours are running well too.
Is the AM2315 in the direct sunlight? That is probably the issue. Put it in a stevenson box if it is having problems.
The SHT30 would probably have about the same problem in the same situation. We don't have any data yet, however.
Thanks for the nice compliment!

Do I need to ship in the dodgy sensor?

Yes, that's part of the exchange program. We send you a new SHT30 when we get the dodgy sensor back.
