Share this great stuff! I'm really interested in this. Too much city glow here, but maybe at a friends house in Palm Springs.

Im in Broken Hill... myself and Phate are already discussing what cameras we would need for doing exactly that Lovely part of the country... red dirt intermixed with gold... Been awhile since I have been there - have family I occasionally visit in Swan Hill... Live in Melbourne but have a farm 50km out of Bendigo - no light pollution, magnificent clear skies, but I know you would be better.... Saw a huge Meteor go over Melbourne last week - lit up the sky like anything - one of the brightest I have ever seen - it exploded over Melbourne and was bright thru all that light pollution. Can only imagine how bright that one would be in clear skies. I have built, got it ready - using sites.google.com/site/meteotuxpi/home as the trial. Just using a standard Pi v2 camera with fish eye lens... Im ready... but as I am in Melbourne it is cloudy, rainy, no clear skies - so just waiting for a good night to give it a trial... and I want to make sure its not going to rain - as I have not decided how I will waterproof it.... Fake CCTV Dome camera ? Go Pro underwater dome case ? Just not sure what plastic will withstand the harsh brightness of the sun for a few years... The plan is to experiment with it a little before taking it to the farm for some remote fun! Decided to build it completely on different hardware so it does not interfere with the weather station... See what happens.... That Meteotxpi looks great. Will have a crack and see what I can come up with out here. Im going to install a 7Ah SLA (possibly) to a new box and shift everything over to that new one. We have heat issues up here, as you would well know, so im a little worried about sun also, and radiant heat, but with small stands, I could probably keep the box low profile enough to keep it safe from wind, and also high enough to save it from a little bit of heat.. with the fans inside also which I currently have installed. With that, I would be able to run 2x units side by side, running off the 1 battery and a higher rated solar charging board. I am backing onto the airport here, so light wont be an issue, as.. except for RFDS.. last commercial flight gets in at 8pm, but right under the Melbourne / Asia flight path so may get some trails Im sure he wont mind, but Phate has a Raspberry Shake. Bit beyond my pricetag, but I would love one. It was a great kickstarter project that I couldnt afford to jump in on at the time.. im sure you could do something very similar, easily.

I have looked at the raspberry shake... Interested... Maybe next year... But at my farm location - it probably wont be shake of the ground it detects, but the nightly migration of Kangaroos... There are hundreds around, and they get so cheeky just jumping up the driveway to the damn each night! The newer raspberry boom was interesting to look at as well - but without AI / Knowledge of what its detecting... might be of limited value...
My farm location is also under flight paths.. to the east of us is arrivals into Melbourne - low down, so expect I will miss most of that... but directly above us is the Asia flightpath out of Melbourne - just like you... I could probably give you a 30 minute warning that they are on the way !!!

imapactoz, Regarding super secret Kickstarter on September 9th, you are WAY off. It's not a weather station. But, it is a really fun Raspberry project! It's working in the lab, just in time. BP So what is it ?

I really want to add a few more things. Like a colour sensor to get the colour of the sky. I love sensors - I want to add more.... - Considered a radiation sensor just for the fun of it.... - Looked at how I could actually tell if it was snowing (not that I get any), and the best way seems to use a camera and look at reflections / changes - so going to pass on that one... - Already have a ultrasonic sensor to measure the water tank level at the farm on the same machine - which sends weekly email updates... Don't talk much about this experience as its not really weather related... - I have the VEML up and running and seems to work well.... So I will post my code / experience of that in a separate post... BUT YOU HAVE ME INTRIGUED... A color sensor to look at the sky ? Is that going to try and work out how cloudy it is.... I like the idea... hmmm... don't want too wide of an angle..... blue = no cloud cover... white would be cloudy... black if during the daytime - storms... You have got me excited !!! What else can you tell me !!!! My plans were actually a lot more simple. lol. I simply wanted the background of whatever webpage can eventually display all thi data to be the current colour of the sky. Just always thought it would be a kewl visual.
