Blynk updates cause high dns traffic. Using my pi-hole ad blocker, I found that these requests have a frequency over 2000 per 10 minutes. Running nslookup, I got the ip addresses for blynk-cloud.com and rtupdate.wunderground.com. I then added the ip addresses and the host names to the / etc / hosts file (sorry for the spaces - leaving them out caused the blocker of this site to activate). blynk-cloud.com is at 45.55.96.146, rtupdate.wunderground is at 52.24.209.34. After doing this the dns request count went down from over 2000 in 10 minutes to the normal of 20-300 in 10 minutes!

2000 over 10 minutes? Holy cow! Something is not properly caching the DNS information. I'll have to check my systems.

I am seeing the same thing. 100s of DNS requests as well as 100s of open connections to 45.55.96.146 (blynk-cloud.com). They are all in a HTTP TIME WAIT state indicating that a return is expected until the maximum of 470 connections is reached. Maybe piHole is blocking ad data. Attachments:

PiHole is not blocking. I removed it from the setup and the hundreds of port 80 TIME_WAIT connections to blynk-cloud.com are still present. Editing the hosts file fixed the hundreds of dns issue at least, so I don't have a maximum of 470 connections...just 190. Still the most connections of any device on my network.

# every minute, check for button changes scheduler.add_job(checkForButtons, 'interval', seconds=10)
This line of code certainly makes it chatty to blynk-cloud.com. Looks like it is check a value from blynk to use metric or english units....every 10 seconds when it should at least be 60 according to the comment. I set mine even higher.

Klwx,
yes, it is a chatty line. The only disadvantage is that your response to the buttons will be slower.
