ok, it seems I have multiple python versions on the pi and the test script for the bmp280 needs an older version with the adafruit modules. But trying to install those I get the error that there are no setuptools available anymore for the python version.
I guess I am lost now.
Is there any chance to get a sdcard iso with a working raspberry pi os and the weatherboard software or something similiar (backup file?) that I can use to make a running version sd card and try it with that?

I made a clean install and tried again. When I run the software the first time, the bmp280 shows up in the head of the GroveWeatherPi.py software - ist says "Present". But then I am getting the same I/O Error again and when I close the GroveWeatherPi and do a i2cdetect -y 1 it is again gone. So I guess I really have 2 broken boards:
Before starting the GroveWeatherPi software via i2cdetect:

No you don't. I am 95% sure (not 100% sure!) that you have some kind of a problem with your I2C on the Raspberry Pi. 1) Do you have another Raspberry Pi? Can you try it on there? What Raspberry Pi are you using in any case? 2) We have an SDCard that has all the software installed. Consider updating to SkyWeather. yes, I know, but it has later software and better hardware. shop.switchdoc.com/products/copy-of-skyweather-raspberry-pi-based-weather-station-kit-for-the-cloudWe know from experience with this board that it is very robust and something is not working right on the Raspberry Pi. what exactly?
