I am having a problem with the SkyCamera running on a Pi Zero with Buster (I have also tried this on a RPi 1A and a RPi4B with the same results). The SkyWeather logs for the camera look like this:

Here's what I would try first.

Since Raspistill and SkyWeather are both erring out, do the following:

1) Power down

2) unplug the camera, carefully plug in.

3) Do the same on the Raspberry Pi Zero. Be careful.

4) Run the Raspistill test again.

It could be that you are running out of memory. run "sudo raspi-config" and cut the graphics memory down by half.

Reboot, Re run your tests.

Thanks for the ideas. I have just completed a series of tests. I did re-seat the connections on both sides and the connection returned good after reboot (vcgencmd get_camera, supported=1 detected=1). The raspistill did lock up at that point. After reboot I tried different memory settings, rebooting each time after every memory change. I had started at 64MB for the graphics memory split. I tried 32MB, 8MB and 256MB with exactly the same result every time after reboot. Note that the system becomes unresponsive after the failed picture attempt. On this same device and cable, I have been able to take a snap with the Raspberry Pi v2 camera.

The error seems to be in the transmission of the data. I hear a "click" when the picture-taking cycle; I assume that is related to the lens. The error suggests the data from the camera sensor to the file is not being send from the camera to the Pi (or the first byte is taking longer than expected). Is there a way to increase the timeout from commanding the image to be taken to the time the image is sent to the Pi?
