Well, I had put up my Weather Station on my roof top last Sunday, and this Friday - big thunderstorm.
All of a sudden, lightning strikes. Is was powerfull enough for us to feel the blast of the impact with the air (Windows were all open) and the bang was incredibly loud.
After I had calmed down the kids, I went on to check on the electronic equipment. All that was not hooked up onto a lightning protected device had been unplugged. So we had no damage on this side.
However, everything that was not protected by walls got fried electronics. The entire street went dark.
Checking the weather station, I realized that all of a sudden the raspberry PI Zero WH was loading 500mA of power instead of the 120mA it did in normal operations. The temperatur of the device itself went up to 80⁰C against the usual 30⁰C showing something was broken.
After analysis on what had happened, the lightning struck a neighbor 20m away. The EMP dsischarge seems to have fried all electronics not unplugged in his houses, and all electronics that were not protected by walls in the near surrounding.
So - it too me 6months to get everything up and running the way I wanted it - and 5 days in Service lightning strucks it.
That is what I call: Bad luck?
I'll get it down as soon as I can get hold of the equipment again, and see what broke down. The PI seems to be dead. Don't know about the rest yet.
