Hello everyone,
I recently purchased the skyweather kit as well as the 'Preloaded 16GB SD Card with Buster / Smart Garden System / SkyWeather / MouseAir / SDCard'
When I boot the pi it turns on and things appear to load however, when I try to open the file manager folder the window pops up for maybe .5 seconds and then it disappears. I am unable to access anything in that folder.
I have a separate sd card that came preloaded from Canakit with the OS and with that card in the Pi the file manager folder opens up just fine and I can access everything there however, there is no Skyweather program on that card.
I am very new to this project or anything remotely like this so this will be a huge undertaking for me. I am wondering what I might be doing wrong?
I have completed to hardware step of the sky weather set up, having connected all the pieces of the system together. I am attempting the 'initial testing' and now I am stuck. From the testing that I have completed so far it looks like everything has been successful and all the parts have been recognized, maybe I don't even need to assess the file manager folder? I just thought it was concerning that I could not access the folder or anything in it.
Any thoughts would he extremely helpful.Thank you!

Have you used a terminal window to test all the components as indicated in the manual? Do all those tests pass?
If you have terminal windows, that is really all you need. You can even use SSH and login from your other computers.
That's a new one for opening the file manager. It opens fine on our Pis!
If everything else is working, I'd ignore it or look on the Internet for possible solutions.

Thank you for the reply,
Yes, from what I can tell it the after testing everything seems to be working fine and all the test have passed. Per the directions when I typed sudo pigpiod sudo python SkyWeather.py my results matched everything in the section titled 'Compare your output with this section:' except for the WLAN, it indicated that it was not present.
The pieces have all been connected, the system has been tested, I believe my next step would be to work on the waterproof housing.
Thank you!

WLAN not present? Are you sure that was the acronym? Check it again, or better yet, post the results.

I'm having the same issue. File manager opens and then quickly closes. I debuted the PI and now it won't boot into the GUI. Between the preconfigured and the SkyWeather kit I've nearly $225. SDL's response: "If everything else is working, I'd ignore it or look on the Internet for possible solutions," is not acceptable.

Looking at the internet for Pi OS problems is actually a good idea in this case. This is a rare problem that we have never seen on any of our test units and have only heard about it twice (in this thread). I am thinking something to do with the firmware on your Pi versus the OS software.
This really has nothing to do with SkyWeather (although if you are running a Pi Zero or Pi Zero W, it could be a memory issue). It is almost certainly something that was pushed out by the Raspberry Pi folks that broke the file manager. Why don't other people have it? They have a different mix of updates.
Try this:
sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get full-upgrade sudo ap-get autoremove sudo apt-get reboot

The card SDL is selling in the store only has 100MB of headroom due to all the extra files you've added. Recommend offer the pre-formated card in a 32GB variant.

Between the cost of the Ourweather kit and the pre-formated SD card I've spentI $225. I understad this is an open source kit, but according to the description on your sales page for the pre-formatted SD card you will " Save time and money with this pre-built image on micro SD Card for your Raspberry Pi." "Go look at the internet for Pi OS problems" is not an acceptable response for $225 open source weather kit. I will be sure to make let backers know the level of support to expect from SDL when you launch your next kickstarter campaign.

Folks,
I'm looking at the SDL Pre formatted SD Card right now and we have 1.5GB free, not 100MB free. So, I'm confused. Next production order, we will increase to 32GB as suggested.
Something else has been added to your image. Could you look at the README.md file at /home/pi and tell me what version of the card you have?

See attached recipes (order# 3692). I did not expand the file system or modify any thing. Maybe there was a formatting error with the card. I duplicated the c o tents of the card to an extra 32gb card I had and everything is working fine when use the 32gb card. Attachments:

I had this problem too when I first started up my SkyWeather, and like you, I'm pretty new to raspberry pi's. I dug around a bit and found a site that told me I should go into the terminal and type in these commands: sudo apt update sudo apt full-upgrade I still don't fully understand what was going on, but this fixed the problem for me.
