Hi. I am having some trouble with the SGS configuration tool. I am not a programmer, but my daughter and I are trying to complete a science project with the SGS2. So, we need some help.
We have a SGS2 and the weather rack 2 with the humidity and temperature sensor unit. I also purchased the Preloaded 16GB SD Card with Buster SkyWeather2/ Smart Garden System / SkyWeather SDCard in August 2020.
I am working my way through the The Smart Garden System Version 2 Weather Add-On Assembly and Test version 1.2. All seems ok until I get to "step 17: Now click on “Save and Reload SGS” button wait 15 minutes and your weather station will start displaying on the dash_app in the Smart Garden System and will also start recording lots of weather to your database."
I click the "save and reload SGS" button, but nothing happens. I registered on Weatherstem, but when I click on the address for my skyweather station I get the following message:
Your SkyWeather device does not appear to be transmitting. Please check that it is properly connected.
Can you tell me what I have done wrong?

OK, first thing is to reset whether you have the weather station up and working.
What is the result of the following commands?
cd cd SDL_Pi_SmartGardenSystem2 sudo python3 testWeatherSensors.py
Let's see what is not working!

Hi, BP, This is the readout I get from that. It seems to match what the manual says: Starting Wireless Read rtl_433 version -128-NOTFOUND branch master at 202007090750 inputs file rtl_tcp RTL-SDR Use -h for usage help and see triq.org/ for documentation. It is transmitting! So, do you have Weather turned on in the configuration file?

BP, Yes, I just checked. I have the "use weather" and "weatherstem configuration" boxes checked. I have not checked the "weather underground" box. Also, the key for my weather rack 2 has been entered in the box "garden cam station key" box. One note: When I click on "save and reload SGS" nothing happens, though I think that the SGS is supposed to save and then reload the dashboard. Also, when I click on save and exit, the program does not stop. I tried ctrl-c, cntrl-esc, cntrl-|. Nothing works. So, in order to stop the configuration program I just close the tab in chrome on my mac. I run the raspberry pi headless through VNC. The line input programming window in the pi shows a message that the server has been stopped when I hit save and exit from the SGSconfig.

Dear BP, My weather is turned on. I have a weatherstem account. The key sent me by John is: BUfmJE0Q. I entered this in the weatherstem account and this is the same key that is entered on the SGS configuration. However, when I click on my skyweather weather station I get the following message:
Your SkyWeather device does not appear to be transmitting. Please check that it is properly connected.

Hi, BP, The problem was solved last night with an update of the software in my SDL_Pi_SmartGardenSystem2 subdirectory. So, the system is now working. Thanks for your help. David

Since I the kick stater I have learned a lot being new to Linux. I have troubleshot as far as I can. I made it to the final step but no luck. I have RTL-SDR installed, the FT-020T working (blinks approx 16-20 sec) and the FT016TH reads temps on CH1. Any help/assistance would be appreciated. Please see below for current stopping point. Glad you have made progress!
Is this our SD Card image?
Is this our SDR?
The problem is that the rtl_433 software is not recognizing the SDR.
Move it to another USB Port on the Pi. Make sure the antenna is plugged in. Note: The antenna is NOT causing the problem above. It is the SDR radio.
Post a picture of your setup please!

Can you try executing the command `sudo python3 readWeatherSensors.py` as the pi user?
Thanks,

I also don't see where you did a "sudo make install" in the build directory of rtl_433.

Jason,
I did that and received the same results.
BP,
I completed this step. 9 targets were built to 100% and projects installed.
Both, I was able to find the email with the link for the provided SD card software. I flashed it skipped to step 5 and also get the same result. Do I need to purchase a different (R820T2 & SDR) dongle? I did lsusb and rtl_test and the both show nothing.

Jason,
Yes, clearly the USB Dongle is the problem. You have supplied pretty definitive results. I should have suggested the "lsusb" command earlier. I'll remember that next time!
