A while back I had bought the weather board when I was buying random stuff on ebay, and I decided to see if I could get OurWeather running on a WeMos D1 R2. I installed it and had to tinker a little bit with some of the code and I was able to get the BME280 I had to work and it showed inside temp, so I purchased the Temp probe and connected it and it also worked like a champ. I had not connected up the Weather rack yet as I was going to purchase one of those next but I already had the air quality sensor from a previous purchase so I purchased the ads1115 and it saw the air quality sensor and everything worked great. I was running tests with it and I moved it outside in its enclosure and had it connected to a battery to see how well it would run and everything went great. I then planned to move it into a more permanent enclosure and clean up the wiring so I disconnected it from the power cleaned up some of the wiring and turned it back on. This is were it all went south. It is possible that when I did this there was an update and it updated when I power cycled it as I had not done this in a while I am not sure if it can do that, I think I had it check for an update but it was a while ago and I think it may have installed one, I am not sure. Either way whatever happened at this point I was never able to get the system back up and running. It basically ignored all i2c connected devices. To try and trace down what happened I connected each i2c device independently and the only one that I could not poll directly was the AM2315. I have since set it up, again alone, and was able to get a humidity reading but the temp reading was just nan. Oddly when it is connected with other things I can not poll its address with the i2c scanning program and I could never get it to recognize in the program. I recently connected an external bme280 and was able to get it to read pressure but it would report the temperature as 0c or 32f but when I poll the bme280 with just the test sketch it worked flawlessly. So I connected the Weather Board up and polled it with the same program and it likewise worked flawlessly, but in OurWeather it still would only read the preassure and I am not totally sure that it was reading correctly.
So I am not sure if something was changed in the OurWeather sketch for the arduino that has rendered the Weather Board incompatible with it. I have not tested it with an atmega based board yet using the SDL_Arduino_WeatherBoard sketch I have only used the SDL_ESP8266_WeatherPlus sketch with the wemos board. I was hoping that since I had gotten it to work before there would be something simple that I had missed that someone could point me to. . . I am planning on purchasing a full kit already and was going to purchase the weather rack to go with what I already have to setup both of them and use them to show my kids the difference between one integrated project and one that is put together with the individual parts. While all these problems highlight the issues with trying to do something like this if I can not figure out a solution I am up the proverbial creek on the lesson plan. LOL
Anyways, I love the OurWeather kit, and I have already sold my neighbor on buying one for his house in Alaska as the weather underground page has very little in the way of weather stations in the area and he is also thinking of setting up a low power wireless setup with a solar cell to catch what little light it can in the winter but mostly to use in the summer, he is on the panhandle so he does get light year round just not a ton, but he has power up the mountain that he wants to monitor and it is a just in case situation, with a large enough battery and a regular on grid power most of the time it should be able to run quite some time so were not worried about that. It is so great that you sell the kits and help people learn about making things for themselves. I am sure if I understood the code a bit better I could figure this out myself but I am still learning.
Thanks in advance for any help. I hope everyone has a safe and happy end of the year festive period.
Cheers
