Folks,
We have some fun software updates coming out in January. John has been sitting in the lab for the past week connecting OurWeather up to the Amazon Alexa (Echo, Dot, etc.) so you can ask Alexa about all the readings on your OurWeather Station. Pretty cool.
He had a great idea at a Marketing meeting (actually Greg asked it if it could be done - so it is his idea) and just sketched out a solution on the spot. The marketing people are really excited.
It's about 1/2 way done. He says he knows what to do to finish it next week. Then we have to write up a manual and get it out, first for OurWeather (although it's going to be quite similar for other projects). But how fun and cool!
We will have the Alexa interface for the following kits:
OurWeather GroveWeatherPi SmartPlantPi ThunderBoard IOT Lightning Detector for the Raspberry Pi ThunderBoard IOT Lightning Detector the Arduino (maybe - we are really short of memory in this project!)
It's not turnkey (you need to set up and populate your own free developer.amazon.com), but it looks like a doable solution.
It's sure fun to watch John get down and dirty with all this code. MQTT! Serverless Lambda Functions! Alexa Skills!
Best regards,
BP

Folks, We are now releasing version 026 of the OurWeather software that supports our (drum roll please) new Amazon Alexa to OurWeather voice interface. We have released the software to the GitHub repository and will put it on the OTA update system later today. We published Part 1 of the 4 part manual for getting this working. It works for us and it is cool. www.switchdoc.com/2018/01/tutorial-voice-time-ourweather-and-amazon-alexa-part-1/BP
