Hi. I just started dabbling with electronics and I, apparently, plugged my Pi2Grover board into my Raspberry Pi incorrectly (nothing else was plugged into the Pi2Grover board). Smoke started emanating from one of the two chips circled in the picture above. I quickly unplugged the Pi2Grover board and then plugged the Pi2Grover board in using the opposite orientation. The power led then glowed blue and the activity led glowed yellow. What did I fry? Do I need to buy an new Pi2Grover board? Thanks for any help/advice!!!!

Yes, you fried the board! You shorted power and ground or reversed biased something on the board.
Start a "Box Of Death" and keep it around to remember to be careful! And check your connections before powering the system up!

P.S. I have a "Box Of Death" too on my desk.

Thank you so much for your reply! I hope to keep my "Box of Death" small!

Ha! Hope so too! I will point out that since we moved as a company to Grove connectors, many fewer additions have been made....
