Hi there,
I'm about to order the Ourweather kit. I have a question.
i am a paraglider pilot. All over the world, glider pilots need to know what the actual real-time and historical conditions are at a very specific location; the launch site. mostly they are in remote locations.
Most sites are within range of cellular GSM but out of range of power or radio(base station with internet). So solar and cellular are important.
Existing weather stations that provide this functionality are cost prohibitive to cash strapped flying clubs. And generally we are nerdy and industrious enough to enjoy building our own.
Historically we've hung windsocks and used binoculars, but that approach has many issues.
If you guys were to offer a kit similar to the Ourweather+solar wireless extender, with the addition of a GSM cellular module (twilio sim), I know word would spread quickly and you'd sell thousands.
Would you be interested in this?
On a side note, I haven't been able to find any tutorials on swapping the radio transmitter with a cellular GSM module. I would imagine people have built this kind of thing... Curious if that's because it is pretty straightforward? Any pointers would be really appreciated.
thanks!

Great idea! We will take a look at this. It would require some software rewrite, but I'll take a look at it this weekend.

Curious if this is something we could work with you to do? I've initiated conversation with local pilots who develop the weather modeling many of us use, and yes having hyper-local realtime data would help with forecasting specific launch conditions. If this were to take off, I expect pilots all over the world would like something like this on every mountain peak. Thanks!

David,
It is the planning process (feasibility really). John and Laurie met on it yesterday.
