I just received my sunairplus and I'm trying to connect it to my Raspberry Pi zero. I installed the i2c tools, enabled i2c in raspi-config, I can see the /dev/i2c-1 and I've tripled checked the four wires connecting. The sunairplus is showing a red indicator next to the connectors. When I do i2cdetect -y 1 it shows no devices:

Check to see if you have reversed SCL and SDA. Post a picture and let us look.
SunAirPlus shows up on our Raspberry Pi Zero test jig.

I tried it on another pi and it seemed to show up just fine. The first I tried also had a wifi/bluetooth board from red bear so I'm guessing the redbear may already be stepping on those pins.

Sounds like they are stepping on the I2C lines. They shouldn't be doing that.
