I have noticed this a few times....
But not had the time to analyse why...
If the Weather Station reboots during the day (maybe it lost the wifi connection and it rebooted) - then total rain gets reset to zero... sort of.
If you have db logging on - Total Rain is preserved, and the database will show the total rain for times after the reboot. However Weather Underground will reset to 0 and increment from the boot time. WeatherStem seems to do the same ?
I think the WeatherStats.txt in State folder is not updating or is resetting ?
I have not experimented enough to work out what is going on - but today my system rebooted itself mid morning.... both web sites are showing no rain for the day, yet it did rain during the night and the database is showing total rain as .14 - So something is strange happening....
(I have been too busy with my latest mod - my station now takes a sunset picture daily automatically based upon calculations, saves it for a little later, then shortly after midnight I have some SQL Queries to get max / min values for the day and other interesting information... What do I do with that ? I tweet it... Yes my weather station is now on Twitter sending out daily reports - LOL.... I'm running out of ideas for the next enhancement!)

OK. This is a bug. We aren't reading in the state data on boot up.
It's on the list for V047. V046 is in the can ready to send out today.

It might be more complex than that too... Is Total Rain intended to be total daily rain or just a total rain over time - ie multiple days. I assume its Total Daily Rain as that's what it is being used as when it is updating the fields for Weather Underground. I know there is always an argument does daily rainfall accumulate 9am to 9am or midnight.... Either way, I don't really care, and not wanting to argue that point.... However yesterday my SQL DB was storing Total Rain as 0.14 After Midnight it is still storing it as 0.14 After 9am it is still storing it as 0.14 So it does not appear to reset back to 0 for the next day ? Now I did have a reboot at 2am and 5am today (unusual getting 2 in one day, I often go 4 days... ) - so not sure if the reboot also might muck up something for resetting things back to 0

Adding to the bug / feature list - I think it would be gret to have YTD Rain kept in State information... Its an often used thing and unless your using the db - its a value that would get lost!!

First Post, new user. Running version 055
Has this bug been resolved? I see posts that indicate it was resolved in 047, but when I reboot my rain totals reset.
Just wondering if I missed something.

It has not been resolved. We have put it in the next revision of software (moving to Python3 and a complete rewrite). We plan to back up the changes into the Python2 version this fall.
