I wanted to run my raspberry pi with a POE (Power Over Ethernet) source and have a wired connection. My router is buried in my basement so wifi connections from outside my second story to my basement are iffy. I ran a cable from my router to a POE injector (12VDC) which then drives a 12VDC to 5VDC (2A) splittter in a unit that is inside the box with the Pi and the weather board. Not only do I not need solar power but the injector is on the same UPS unit as my router so if I have a power failure nothing goes down. The power injector/splitter are from my old ISP days and is manufactured by Breezenet. If anyone else is interested in a wired POE installation, I have quite a few of these devices. Send me a private message for more info. This is working very well! I did have to get a DC barrel jack to micro-usb for the raspberry pi power.
