I have a LOT of professional meteorological sensors and wondering how they may – or may not work.
It’s actually my job. I install and maintain met towers on wind farms and the equipment installed on them. Typically, everything is Class I and 3rd Party Certified. Anemometers start at $300, but can go up to $3000 for the sonic anemometers.
Since I replace a lot of it, I have accumulated quite the little pile. Much of it is wired into a datalogger costing about $4000. Obviously RaspberryPi makes that MUCH cheaper and I’m hoping to utilize it to make a cheaper station with high-end peripherals. Most of these sensors will output analog signals too.
My initial thought will be cabling and getting that sorted to RJ-11. Ours are typically run through a junction box at about 200′ up and then down through a multi-pair cable where the ends are crimped or tinned.
Has anyone else used 3rd party weather sensors or am I in uncharted waters? I’m happy to document my work.

We have people ask about a variety of sensors and how to hook them up. Our 4 channel 16bit ADC is a good place to start to build and write 3r4d party sensors.
If you will write up your driver information for any of your sensors, we will be happy to publish it on our blog so others can find the information.
Make sure you publish the software code too. The drivers are always in demand. If you don’t have a GitHub account, we would be happy to publish them for you.
