I was hesitatnt to open another thread, since it seems that there are a couple of threads on this topic, but SDL staff seem to be nothing but helpful.
I am having serious problems with the OurWeather. I should start by saying that this was a kit that I bought back in 2017, but was never installed outside. It was used very occasionally as an inside demonstration kit to show science students how weather measurements were taken, but it mostly sat unused. This weekend I had some time and wanted to finally get the kit installed in a waterproof box, so I set it out on Saturday, April 4, 2020.
Unfortunately, the kit seems to be malfunctioning. Like many other forum users, I find that the station functions normally for a period (though for me it is usually less than 30 minutes), and then the data slowly starts to degrade. The telltale signs are that the timestamp becomes 2009-85-165 37:165 and the Outdoor Humidity becomes nan. Other values become large negative values. Example JSON response:

As you can see, the Wind Sensors and the Barometer seem to be functioning normally, but this problem eventually goes on to render the unit unaccessible via REST, even when it is still connected to the WiFi. The LCD screen is also blank. I did not notice the issue until after I had updated from v035 to v036, but I do not know whether that is a coinicidence, since I updated it rather promptly after installing the station.
Solutions tried so far:
- I have changed the USB cable that was supplying power. I have not changed the wall wart yet.
- I have tried running the OurWeather without the RTC plugged in, after seeing that suggested by other users. The behaviour persists.
- I have configured Home Assistant to request the REST resource only once every 30 minutes, so I do not believe that it is related to the frequency of rest calls.
Questions
I understand that you are running an exchange program for the temperature and humidity sensors. I don't know what your local situation is, but here in Ontario, Canada, we're under strict essential-only orders due to COVID-19, so I will not be able to ship the original sensor back to you in the near-term. I would be happy to pay for a replacement if that is the solution to this issue.
- Could the RTC battery have become depleted? Would that explain any of this?
- Is the issue of bad temp/humidity sensors related to this issue or another problem?
- Would reverting to an earlier software version help? (I don't want to take the kit apart again if I can help it, so I have not yet tried this).
- If I run the weather station without the temp/humidity sensor connected, would that help to debug this somehow?
