So its been nearly a year since I was last here....
But I am back with a vengeance !!!
So late last year, after completely modifying my SkyWeather - adding other sensors, modifying code, getting twitter on it, investigating all sorts of things.... I had what I thought was a reliable solution... It was working well...
So I deployed it at my remote location where I wanted it... and it worked well... For a couple of hours, just as I left the location... Seemed it had an AI to determine when I am no longer there play up.
I could not make contact with the unit... it was dead... Returned a few weeks later, tried again... It worked for a day or two and it was not contactable again...
So got frustrated and shelved the SkyWeather for another day...
Strange year, Covid came locked myself down, not allowed to visit the remote location, work got busy, all sorts of distractions... Once or twice I popped into the forum to see what was happening.... And now we are here a year later for Take 2.
So both my SkyWeather stations showed similar issues of reliability and stability... not happy, but the idea occured to me lets take it off wifi, in fact lets move to POE....
So I am currently running it as POE - maybe that will give me more stability, maybe its just a power or wifi issue that has been causing the issues.
Dusted off one of my SkyWeather stations - booted first time... Having not investigated the last outage - thought maybe something was fried, and I would need to replace it... Nope - worked fine.
So still debugging - the POE splitter was causing radio interference, and I was getting errors all the time of inaccurate lightningstrikes - nope no lightning around - what was those 14 hits... Appears I fixed that, relocated the POE splitter, and wrapped two 50cm grove connectors in copper tape... So far so good...
So I might just be back to play some more!!!!
What I have noticed though in the last year - things have been pretty stale here... Bugs I reported not fixed, no new versions of software since I was last here... Promises of Python3 with every date missed... But I do see Pierus resolved the total rain issue on reboot - KUDOS - BIG THANKYOU! Im about to roll that into my code now!
So lets get the party started !!!
My plans - if stability is resolved....
Just bought a mlx90614 sensor - IR Thermometer.... Apparently the difference in ambient temperature and the IR temperature pointing up to the sky might determine if its cloudy or clear....
Thinking about pan tilt on the camera - so I can get the picture of sunrise and sunset, move the camera incrementally throughout the day and then at night point it towards a pole star, to watch the stars circle around the center...
But alas I need that stability fix, and the other bugs not fixed in the last year first...
So anyway - I am back...
